For the TV-series ‘Handen uit de Mouwen’ we followed a team of ‘Medics without Vacation’ in South Kivu, Congo. They witnessed a uvulectomy. Traditional healers cut  the uvula. They believe that it is responsible for “all throat conditions”. In some parts of Africa, it’s even performed on toddlers.
